A large Local Authority have been installing cavity wall installation to many of its tenanted properties.
The insulation installers awarded the work, in an effort to provide clear evidence of the benefits of the insulation, asked Efficiency Direct Ltd to provide thermal images of the buildings both prior to and following completion of the installation of the insulation.
A Fluke model Ti10 was used to obtain the pictures and thermal images from one of the building surveys are shown.
In addition to confirming the effectiveness of cavity wall insulation, thermal imaging has also proved to be effective at detecting the following:
- Void areas where insulation has not being properly injected
- Areas of damp cavity insulation where moisture ingress has occurred.
- Leaks around window frames, vent grilles and through cracks in walls.
- Damp patches in brickwork due to building defects.
- Poorly and un-insulated roof voids.
